Description

This introductory class serves as an exploratory experience for teens interested in acting in TV and Film. Through a combination of acting exercises and scene work, students have the opportunity to tap into their creativity and imagination while learning the basics of on-camera acting technique. 
Class focal points:
  • The difference between on-camera and stage acting
  • Finding clues in the text to create a character
  • How to approach dramatic and comedic scripts
  • Creating backstory
  • Break down a script into playable actions
Prerequisite: Must have been in at least 2 CYT shows or similar acting experience per Artistic Director discretion

Dexter Masland

Dexter Masland attended The University of Southern California, where he received a B.A. in Dramatic Arts and minored in The Critical Study of Film and Television. He continued his training at the renowned British American Drama Academy (BADA) in London. After completing that program, he returned to Los Angeles and began working as a professional actor. During his 10 years in Los Angeles, he trained at both The Groundlings and UCB improv schools, and studied under some of Hollywood’s top acting coaches. His credits include Disney Channel's Dog With A Blog, CW’s Jane the Virgin, and BounceTV's Johnson. His most recent project was a faith-based television show called These Stones.
