Join Ruthie Hayashi in honing the art of storytelling! Every performer is an artist, and every artist is a storyteller. We all benefit in learning from each other’s art! Each week the class will study a different form of performance, art, and media to deepen their understanding of the elements of a memorable story (Message, Conflict, Character, Setting, Plot, Spectacle, etc.) Through analyzing, we will expand our artistic knowledge, compare the success of stories repeated across styles and mediums, and improve our story-crafting skills. The various forms we will study can include anything from theatre, major film/TV, dance, literature, make-up artistry, past and current music, studio art, advertisements, fashion design, or specific interests of the class!
Directly apply what you learn to your other classes, reinforce your theatre learning experience, and expand your storytelling capabilities as a performer!
A self-proclaimed Tucson local of 11 years, Ruthie is a professional vocalist and has been an avid story teller/performer since a young age. After graduating from Catalina Foothills High School, she enjoyed performing in local theatre through Arts Express (CATS, Hunchback of Notre Dame) and the Southern Arizona Performing Arts Company (The Hot Mikado). She is currently an actress at the Gaslight Theatre and a vocalist for the swing-style female vocal group, the Manhattan Dolls. With a massive love and appreciation for the arts, her experiences as an artist, educator, and choreographer extend into choral and band state ensembles, vocal jazz, theatre make-up, and the marching arts. Ruthie believes art's true form is viewed and created through a passionate and compassionate lens and is excited to share that lens with the CYT community!
