This class will encompass all aspects of improvisation for the stage. We will delve into and explore how “improv” is used as a form of theatre performance as well as a tool for enhancing skills and knowledge in all performing arenas. We will focus on a wide variety of methods, from warm-ups, to improv “games,” to fully improvised scenes, and written scenes created from improvised scenarios. The students will learn to utilize their voices and bodies to create characters and scenes. A large focus of our class will be trusting in and cooperating with our fellow players. A “team” culture and environment is essential to our goals. Students will be fostered to trust themselves and each other, to find their voice, and to use it with confidence. Our class will be a safe, criticism-free environment where every child’s ideas, motivations, and expectations will be treated with respect by instructor and peers.
