Class Description

Students will be able to improve personal skills like team-work & collaboration, listening, reacting and adapting in real time,
leadership, public speaking, being in the moment, supporting the ideas of others without judgement, and much more through numerous improv
exercises. Students will examine the improv exercises to create a theme in which they will use for their devised theatre pieces. The devised pieces
will be written, directed and performed by the students during showcase as a collaborative effort. This class is for students that are interested in
focusing on using improv to create original pieces in the perspective of an actor and writer.


Daniela Ayala

Daniela is a native from Yuma, Az that fell in love with theatre at the age of 9 when she heard The Phantom of the Opera for the first time. Since then, she has been a part of many productions, backstage and onstage. Her acting credits include Mrs. Savage (Curious Savage), Mrs. Bucket (Willy Wonka), and Margot (The Diary of Anne Frank). She has her Associate’s in Theatre from Arizona Western College, where she directed The Great Gatsby and Cagebirds, and has gone to direct many community plays such as The Diary of Anne Frank, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and Real Women Have Curves. Daniela also created the Summer Youth Theatre Program in Yuma, AZ, a program to teach different theatre elements to children over the summer which is in its 6th year. She was also the stage director for Freaky Friday, a CYT production. Currently, she is a high school teacher at Salpointe Catholic HS.


Mara Katrina Capati

Mara most recently appeared in SAPAC’s production of Title of Show as Heidi. She relocated from Parkersburg, WV in November 2018 where she had been active in the theater community in various capacities including acting, production, tech, children’s theater, hair and make-up, and fundraising. This past year she appeared as Crystal in Little Shop of Horrors and was the Assistant Director of To Kill a Mockingbird at the Actors Guild of Parkersburg. Her past roles at the guild also nclude Aouda in Around the World in 80 Days, Marta in Company, and the Ghost of Christmas Past in Scrooge. Mara also played the role of Mina in the Mid-Ohio Valley Players’ production of Dracula. At Ohio Valley University, she directed “Freak!” and starred in Hello Dolly as Dolly. Last year, Mara placed third, overall in the National Society of Arts and Letters’ musical theater competition in the Mid-East Region. She is an alumni of John Robert Power's school for acting, singing, modeling, and dancing and was formerly represented by Dream Talent Management in West Hollywood, CA. By day, Mara is a Crisis Advocate for the Southern Arizona Center Against Sexual Assault.
