Created by Tony Award-winning writers Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, the show features beloved characters such as Horton the Elephant, The Cat in the Hat, Gertrude McFuzz, Mayzie La Bird, and Jojo, a young dreamer with an extraordinary imagination. Audiences journey through colorful settings including the Jungle of Nool, the Circus McGurkus, and the tiny world of the Whos.

Narrated by The Cat in the Hat, the story follows Horton the Elephant after he discovers a tiny speck of dust inhabited by the Whos, among them Jojo, a child whose boundless imagination often gets him into trouble. Horton takes on the enormous responsibility of protecting the Whos while also caring for an egg entrusted to him by the carefree Mayzie La Bird. Along the way, he encounters skepticism, danger, and even a courtroom trial. Through every challenge, Gertrude McFuzz remains steadfast in her belief in Horton and his goodness.

Characters:

The Cat In The Hat

Our story's omniscient narrator, he is fun loving and enjoys rhyming. Pops up throughout the story to help the audience. Wise and attentive.

Jojo

The Mayor's son, he is a Who that is always finding trouble. Bright, creative, and inadvertently mischievous. Possesses a wildly expansive imagination and finds solace in his friendship with Horton.

Horton The Elephant

Our story's main character, he is a compassionate and gentle elephant. Commonly misunderstood because of his larger size. He is protective and loving of all creatures in the jungle.

Gertrude Mcfuzz

Horton's one-feathered-tail bird neighbor. Gertrude is sweet and timid. Though kind and loyal, she is also self-conscious of her shortfalls.

Mayzie Labird

The most beautiful bird in all of the jungle. Oblivious to her self-centered ways, she relies on her talent of manipulation, and intoxicating beauty, to navigate her way through life.

The Sour Kangaroo

The 'leader' of the jungle. She is loud, brassy, and stubbornly set in her ways. A caring mother, but unabashedly sassy and soulful.
